A second edition of our working conference on how to reach the 3 billion trees pledge in Europe by 2030.
When: 3/22/2022, 3:00 PM
Where: Rue du Trone 130, Brussels / Online
Under the European Green Deal, the EU biodiversity strategy for 2030 commits to planting at least 3 billion additional trees in the EU by 2030 in full respect of ecological principles. This means that the right tree has to be planted in the right place and for the right purpose. This requires good planning and monitoring.
Our conference will discuss both, tree-planting pledges, their plans and implementation, and how we monitor the effort at different levels. Furthermore, we want to discuss how this effort contributes to the desired result of carbon storing and how regenerative and carbon farming are able to support this.
The working conference will focus on two major aspects:
Motivation of key planting actors to share the data, how to involve all member states, and how to ensure that only additional trees are counted; not the reforestation or business as usual.
As one of the motivators for participation of companies in tree planting. Offsetting into regenerative agriculture, forestry or carbon farming. Realistic expectations from carbon sequestration in various ecosystems.
