3 Billion Trees EU Pledge

Under the European Green Deal, the EU biodiversity strategy for 2030 commits to planting at least 3 billion additional trees in the EU by 2030 in full respect of ecological principles. This means that the right tree has to be planted in the right place and for the right purpose. This requires long term planning and monitoring.
In practice, the right mix of tree species should be planted not only in forests, but also in rural and urban areas. No trees should be planted in areas of high nature value such as mires, bogs, fens, wetlands, peatlands, and grasslands. Tree planting in cities can be very beneficial even in smaller numbers, while planting in rural areas can bring added synergies when coupled with agroforestry or landscape features.
We have been helping the European Commission since the initial face of this commitment to establish a reliable partnership with tree planting initiatives across Europe to set up tools and follow approaches that can deliver these huge numbers of newly planted trees in full respect of the criteria set up by the Commission itself.

Our initiative in the Czech Republic called Planting for the Future O projektu – Sázíme budoucnost (sazimebudoucnost.cz) had started even before the Commission’s plan. Since 2019 have been constantly working on our campaign to plant 10 million trees outside of forests and within the next 5 years. We are trying to create an internode a platform where opportunities, wishes and needs connect in order to deliver great results. By providing funding, guidelines for tree planting, land available for planting, volunteers, etc. we are creating a pool of opportunities.
All our planted trees will be registered also on the European platform MapMyTree. We are committed to help fulfil our common European goal!!
Our initiative has been already replicated in Slovakia About initiative - Sadíme budúcnosť (sadimebuducnost.sk) and other countries will follow soon!!
We need to speed up this process! Within our European Tree of the Year network, we want to encourage more people to get involved and help make Europe greener.
